Cataract in the Glaucoma Patient
Presented by Gillian Treadwell, MD
Wake Forest University School of Medicine

This presentation will cover special considerations when performing cataract surgery on a glaucoma patient. Pre-operative surgical planning will be addressed, including patient expectation management, lens selection, and MIGS. We will cover surgical pearls specific to glaucoma patients. Causes and management of post-operative IOP spike will be discussed. We will also explore the role of cataract extraction in primary angle closure.

Dr. Gillian Treadwell was born and raised in Rock Island, IL. She earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University before obtaining her M.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Following medical school, Dr. Treadwell completed her ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit where she developed a passion for glaucoma, after which she further completed her glaucoma fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Currently, Dr. Treadwell resides in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with her husband and two small children. She serves as a faculty member at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where she is both the Glaucoma Fellowship Director and the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology.  In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Treadwell maintains a busy full-time clinical practice, where she accepts complex glaucoma and cataract referrals from across western North Carolina and Virginia.

We begin at 6 p.m. with networking, appetizers, and cash bar, followed by the meeting and dinner at 6:45 p.m. Members are encouraged to invite guests.
